July 2023 Newsletter

Updated: Aug 7, 2023

Ma Dame Stitch and Designa Creations have joined forces to provide you, our loyal customers with a world of inspiration.

Classes held in the month of July

8th July - Shopping Bags | Sewing | Beginner

A group of ladies convened at Ma Dame Stitch, cut out their shopping bags, were introduced to new sewing techniques and got to see the pattern being cut out on the Brother Scan ‘n Cut SDX1200. Who would have thought this possible?

12th July - Shopping Bags (continued)

Doris popped into Ma Dame Stitch to learn how to use her newly purchased Cover Stitch CV3550. Her project from 8th July was brought to the lesson and what a lovely, well constructed shopping bag it was.

15th July - Waistcoat | Sewing/Embroidery | Intermediate

Wynanda took the ladies through an inspirational morning doing machine embroidery on test pieces of fabric. The designs are produced with mercerised cotton and look as if they have been hand embroidered. Isabell shared with the team that she had recently given a whole bottle of mercerised cotton away, as she did not think she would use it going forward!

Moral of the story, what you do not think you need today, you will need tomorrow…

How frustrating is it when you are trying to transfer pattern markings onto darker fabrics?

Our embroidery mentor Wynanda showed us that you can simply use left-over pieces of a soap bar to draw markings on your darker fabrics.

Product of the month

Every seamstress knows the frustration of trying achieve professional Bias Binding results. We have the perfect kit to help solve this problem.

This month students attending classes were shown how to use these bias binding making sets. It is so useful to be able to make your own bias tape. The foot is so easy to use and attaches bias binding in a “jiffy”.

No mess, no fuss...It is explained on YouTube in the under mentioned link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96-lsr69Fn8

We will be using this foot in courses going forward. For those ladies who missed out on the demonstration, you can request your own personalised course.

What’s New

The Brother Artspira App

If you are experiencing challenges loading and require assistance you are welcome to contact Isabell/staff at Ma Dame Stitch and you will be guided through how to activate/use this new creative world.

We're in love with Wet Felting

Wet felting is the process of using a combination of friction/agitation, soap and water to make felt out of wool fibres. Come into the store and have a look at the examples of wet felting projects that Isabell and Carol have done. Ma Dame Stitch will be hosting courses in Wet Felting and stock the necessary materials in order for you to produce lovely items that you can treasure/sell.

Embroidery Project

Help us create Christmas gifts for the elderly by making cases for their reading glasses. If you send your creation to us we'll make sure it finds a good home this Christmas.
